SWIFT® uses microwave energy to heal the infected tissue, without puncturing or damaging the skin. It applies the same microwaves technology that has been employed for the treatment of cancer over the last 30 years. So, it’s a non-invasive, super-effective procedure. Like with most skin viruses, the most effective way to treat verruca is by triggering your body’s immune system and allowing its natural healing process to clear the infected tissue.

SWIFT® Microwave Verruca Treatment does exactly that; it uses electromagnetic waves to penetrate deep into the affected tissue not just to destroy it but also to alert the immune system of the verruca virus, activating its self-healing response.

How does Swift work?

The Science

Infected tissue can exist several millimetres below the surface and can often be difficult to treat using traditional methods, resulting in either untreated tissue or significant damage.

The Strategy

SWIFT® delivers a precise, highly controlled energy dose. As microwaves travel into the tissue, water molecules begin colliding and creating localised heat energy - quickly destroying all infected tissue within a predetermined depth.

The Solution

In just seconds the treatment is complete, leaving the body to absorb and replace the treated tissue.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@cheshirepodiatry.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Almost anyone who has stubborn warts and verrucae can benefit from SWIFT®. There are contra-indications to SWIFT® but outside these anyone who has warts/verrucae on their feet can benefit.

With a few exceptions, most people with skin lesions would be able to have this treatment. SWIFT® is suitable for older children and low risk diabetics who have good circulation and sensations.

Although SWIFT® MICROWAVE VERRUCA TREATMENT is a relatively safe treatment, some precautions may be necessary if you are or have the following:

  • Any metal pins, plates or replacement joints in your foot or ankle

  • Heart problems and wear a pacemaker

  • Neuropathy (nerve damage) in the feet

  • Very poor circulation

  • Your body doesn’t heal very well
  • Diabetes but only when is low risk and you have good circulation and sensations in your limbs

  • Immunosuppressive drugs, from cancer treatment or rheumatoid arthritis because they lower the immunity

  • Insensibility to pain; in this instance, you may have to give you analgesics

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding as your immune system heightens and lowers during this time to protect both mother and fetus. SWIFT® might be safe but the results might not be as successful as your body may not promote its own repair.

Cheshire Podiatry  will carry out an assessment prior to treatment and be able to advise you on this.

Women who are pregnant or breast-feeding should know that the energy from SWIFT® is delivered entirely locally, and so carries the same risk as treatments such as electrolysis, which is considered safe. However, it is known that the immune system is naturally suppressed during pregnancy, so treatment may be theoretically less likely to be successful.

Most patients describe a short, sharp sensation – like a pinprick zap – lasting just a second or two. There’s no lingering pain, no need for anaesthetic, and you can get straight back to daily life.

What Are The Advantages Of SWIFT® Microwave Verruca Treatment?

  • Rapid treatment time of just a few seconds

  • Minimal discomfort

  • No post treatment dressings or special precautions

  • No inconvenience of showering or bathing with a dressing on

  • No need to keep the foot dry for days

  • No need for an anesthetic injection

  • If your wart is causing you pain there is a rapid reduction in pain following treatment

  • Proven results with over three-quarters of warts treated clearing by the end of treatment

  • The system has been put through rigorous testing to ensure the highest possible levels of safety for patient

  • In some cases the treated area may feel sore but will not usually prevent you undertaking normal daily activities. No dressings are needed and you can get your foot wet.

  • Swift verruca treatment can be suitable for children, but this is assessed on an individual basis. There is no fixed minimum age, as suitability depends on the child’s age, clinical presentation, and ability to tolerate the treatment. Our podiatrists will discuss the options with you and advise on the most appropriate treatment plan.

This is dependent on how you respond to treatment. In some cases, you may need more than one treatment. Your podiatrist will be able to discuss this with you.

Multiple verrucas can be treated at the same session.

In recent research, 83% of the most stubborn verrucas cleared using SWIFT®Microwave therapy. The very best results were obtained with 3 treatments at 4 weekly intervals.

With SWIFT®, you’ll certainly need more than one session, but the total number depends on the location, duration, size and numbers of verrucae and how your body responds to the treatment.

The majority of people need a minimum of three sessions with an interval of four weeks in between them.

After your first session, there will be no change to the appearance of verruca. Although visible results are slow and you may not see any changes before you have third sessions, the healing is still taking place.

SWIFT® will activate your body’s immune system but the actual healing process will need a little longer to gather pace. This is why we leave a gap of at least four weeks between treatments.

  • Unlike freezing, acids or cutting, Swift doesn’t damage surrounding tissue. Instead, it activates your immune system to fight the infection from within, making recurrence much less likely.

Verruca-Treatment options @ Cheshire Podiatry

Warts on the feet are called verrucae or plantar warts

  • Verrucae (plantar warts) are caused by human papillomavirus (HPV).
  • Common on the soles of the feet, especially in children and teenagers.
  • Can appear single or in clusters (mosaic).
  • Look like rough patches with tiny black dots, colour can vary from grey to yellow or brown.
  • Pain difference: Verrucae hurt when pinched from the sides; corns hurt when pressed directly.

Prevention of Verruca

You can lower your risk of catching verrucae by taking a few simple precautions:

  • 👣 Wash your feet regularly and dry them thoroughly
  • 🩴 Wear flip flops or protective footwear in communal areas like pools, showers, and changing rooms
  • 🚫 Avoid walking barefoot in public damp areas (plantar warts) are caused by human papillomavirus (HPV).

Treatment of Verruca ⚠️ When to Seek Treatment

  • Painful verrucae
  • 🌱 Spreading lesions
  • 👀 Embarrassment due to appearance

Important:

  • ❌ Avoid self-treatment – can spread the virus
  • 👩‍⚕️ Consult a podiatrist if pregnant, diabetic, have circulation problems, or on long-term medication

Debridement @ Cheshire Podiatry

Debridement

Debridement is a simple podiatry technique where your podiatrist carefully pares back or removes the thickened skin and surface layers of the verruca using sterile instruments.

This controlled reduction not only helps to ease discomfort but also allows direct access to the viral tissue beneath, improving the effectiveness of any follow-up treatments.

Debridement is often the first step in successful verruca treatment, providing both comfort and a clearer pathway for recovery.

Why Choose Debridement for Verruca Removal?

  • ✅ Instant relief from pain and pressure – by reducing the hard skin that builds over verrucae
  • ✅ Makes other treatments more effective – exposes the verruca so solutions like Verrutop® or Silver Nitrate can penetrate deeper
  • ✅ Quick and precise – performed safely in clinic by your podiatrist
  • ✅ Minimally invasive – no need for anaesthetic or recovery time non-surgical treatments are not effective, our podiatrists are trained and experienced in performing foot and ankle surgery. We use minimally invasive techniques to ensure faster recovery times and less pain.

Verrutop @ Cheshire Podiatry

Verrutop

Verrutop® is a new generation topical treatment for verrucae and plantar warts. Unlike traditional treatments such as cryotherapy (freezing) or salicylic acid, Verrutop® works through a unique chemical action that destroys the infected tissue while leaving healthy skin unharmed.

This makes Verrutop® an ideal option for patients looking for a safe, painless, and effective verruca treatment.

Why Choose Verrutop® for Verruca Removal?

  • ✅ Painless application – no need for anesthesia or dressings
  • ✅ Quick treatment in clinic – applied directly by your podiatrist
  • ✅ Effective for stubborn verrucae – especially those resistant to other methods
  • ✅ Minimal risk of scarring – gentle on surrounding skin

How Verrutop® Works

During your appointment, your podiatrist applies Verrutop® directly onto the verruca. The solution penetrates the lesion and starts breaking down the infected tissue. Over the following days, the verruca begins to dry out and shrink.

Most patients notice improvement within a few sessions, and long-standing or multiple verrucae can be significantly reduced or cleared.

Who Can Benefit from Verrutop®?

  • Patients with persistent verrucae that have not responded to over-the-counter treatments
  • Children or adults seeking a painless verruca treatment
  • People who want to avoid invasive procedures like freezing or laser treatment

This controlled reduction not only helps to ease discomfort but also allows direct access to the viral tissue beneath, improving the effectiveness of any follow-up treatments.

Debridement is often the first step in successful verruca treatment, providing both comfort and a clearer pathway for recovery.
